Hotmail Contacts – Quick How to Add Contacts to Your Account

Hotmail Contacts

UPDATE: 07/08/2014

Microsoft has once again changed their interface for Hotmail. In order for you to get to your Microsoft Hotmail contacts you click on the drop down arrow to the right of “Outlook.com” and to left of “New”. This drop down menu includes “People”. Select “People” and you are now at your contacts.

You can add, remove, edit, etc. from within “People”.

UPDATE: 06/26/2018

Microsoft Corporation is at it again changing their Hotmail email interface. If you want to quickly access your Hotmail email contacts, then click on “Filter” on the right hand side when you log into your inbox. A list of options will display.

Choose “Contacts” and all of your Hotmail email contacts should be displayed. Make certain you disable any ad blockers for the Live.com domain.

When I tried loading my contacts, I received this message:

“Cannot perform this action on your mailbox.”

You can still access your Microsoft Hotmail email contacts by clicking on the “People” icon under “Upgrade to Premium”. There are two sections you can work with. “Contacts” and “Contact lists”.

You can then quickly edit, delete, and manage your Microsoft Hotmail email contacts. You can add a contact(s) to your favorites. A “Filter” drop down list allows you to filter by contacts or contact lists, display by first or last name, and sort by first name or last name or company name.

Look for and click on “New contact” to create a new contact in Microsoft Hotmail email. Clicking on “Manage” gives you these options:

* restore deleted contacts
* import contacts
* export contacts
* clean up contacts

You can only import and export with comma separated value files. You can restore recently deleted contacts. Also, you can permanently delete them from this option.

I do NOT know how recent they must have been deleted or what is considered “recent” to Microsoft. Clean up your contacts looks for duplicate contacts. This tool will NOT delete any duplicates but will link them so they appear as just one contact.

Contact lists function basically the same way as Contacts. The difference is you can create lists of contacts. For example coworkers, family, friends, book club, etc.

While Microsoft has listed your contacts under “People” for quite some time now, who knows where your Microsoft Hotmail email contacts will become available in the future. I personally do NOT rely on Microsoft products. However, quite a few people still do.

Especially, maybe perhaps because you can create and use a Microsoft account to login with Microsoft Windows 10 operating system.

Today I will show you how to quickly find and add contacts to your Microsoft Hotmail account. The menu item for contacts maybe confusing or difficult to find, as Microsoft likes to change their Microsoft Hotmail web interface. Once logged into your Microsoft Windows live Hotmail account, you will see “Contact List” under “Related Places” which is at the lower left part of that page towards the very bottom.

Click on “Contact List” and that will take you to your Microsoft Hotmail contact list where you can add, remove, import, export, etc. contacts.

USB Speaker Phone – Fix to Get Your Kensington VO300 to Work

This is a potential fix to get your Kensington VO300 universal serial bus Internet speaker phone working. You can download and install the most current version of software and drivers for the Kensington VO300. Skip to the following section “Kensington Vo300 USB Internet Speaker phone version 1.1.8” for installation instructions.

UPDATE: 6/18/2018

Kensington’s website no longer has installation instructions. Also, version 1.1.8 software is no longer available. Kensington Works 1.20 is available for Microsoft Windows operating systems.

However, since I do NOT own one of these devices, I am not sure if this software will work with the Kensingnton VO300 universal serial bus Internet speaker phone.

If you already have older software installed you will have to remove that first before installing version 1.1.8. If the Kensington VO300 software does not work after installation, then you may have to run the program in Microsoft Windows compatibility mode. Browse to the folder where the Kensington software you installed is located in.

Once there can you find the .exe file for the Kensington software and Right Click it. A menu will pop up and then select “Properties”. In properties click on the “Compatibility” tab.

In that tab under “Compatibility mode” select one of the “Windows XP” options from the drop down list. Also, check the box “Run this program as an administrator” under “Privilege Level” then click “OK”. Try to right click the Kensington icon in your system try or lower right corner and select “close”.

Either reboot the computer or go to the “Start” “Programs” location for Kensington and restart the software which ever is easiest for you. Hopefully, the program will run correctly using windows xp compatibility mode. This fix was successful on a computer with Microsoft Windows Vista operating system installed.

These instructions were written specifically for Microsoft Windows Vista operating system but can certainly be used as a basis for other Microsoft operating systems. The Kensington VO300 USB speakerphone are no longer manufactured new. This device might still be available on Amazon.com or eBay.com.

Service Pack XP 3 – Fixes For “Access Denied” Error Messages

Servic Pack XP 3

Some users are reporting that they are receiving an “Access Denied” message when trying to install Windows XP Service Pack 3. I am going to show you today some potential fixes for this error. One potential fix is to reboot your computer, and then try to install Microsoft Windows XP service pack 3 manually, by downloading and running the service pack 3 install file from MajorGeeks.

Microsoft has removed the ability to download Windows XP service pack three directly from their servers. You can download Microsoft XP Service Pack 3. Another fix is assuming you have been trying to install Service Pack 3 with an administrator account.

You can try resetting the security settings for Microsoft Windows XP. A system file may be locked for some strange reason. You can follow this short tutorial from Microsoft, to reset your security settings.

Windows XP Security Settings

Another possibility would be to reboot your computer then disabling any anti virus, adware, spyware, malware applications you have installed and then attempting to install Microsoft Windows XP service pack 3. You can follow the tutorial for this from Microsoft. Go ahead and skip to “Method 2” under “Resolution” since you have already tried method 1 under Resolution.

Microsoft Support XP

A fourth possibility, if none of the methods above work, is to reset the registry and file permissions. This is an advanced method and can be completed by following “Method 1” under “Advanced Troubleshooting” section.

Microsoft Support XP

You can also read through the prerequisites before installing Microsoft Windows XP service pack 3, if you would like from Microsoft. There are also some additional troubleshooting steps in that article for “access denied” errors when attempting to install Microsoft Windows XP service pack 3.

Windows XP Tech Support

You might want to keep any of the Windows XP service pack 2 updates under add and remove programs in case you want to roll back to Service Pack 2 in the future. If you delete service pack 2 then you will NOT be able to roll back to that service pack. You may want to leave it installed in case of an emergency.

Sometimes Microsoft knowledge base update KB911895 fails to install after upgrading to Microsoft Windows XP service pack 3. You can browse to C:\Windows\system32\drivers and then delete or rename the wdf01000.sys file. After deleting or renaming the file, you go to windows update and select “Custom”, then select hardware updates and “HID Non-User Input Data Filter” should be there again. Now select download and install.

Hopefully, Microsoft Knowledge Base update KB911895 will install successfully this time. Another option if that does not fix the KB911895 problem, is to then boot into Microsoft Windows safe mode and download and install this update manually from Microsoft.

Computer Shuts Off – Fix This Windows Computer Reboot Problem

Computer Shuts Off

Does your Microsoft Windows based computer shut off when you turn it on? If you have tried pressing the F8 key, to enter the advanced boot options and tried all safe mode options, as well as the system restore feature, and nothing helped, there are other trouble shooting options. I assume you have tried “Last known configuration” when hitting the F8 key.

Also, when selecting any of the safe mode options does the computer boot into safe mode successfully or does the computer power itself off again? If the computer boots successfully into Microsoft Windows safe mode with networking I recommend running some malware, spyware, and virus scans. If you have the Microsoft Windows Vista installation media ie. DVD or restore compact disc that came with your computer, you can perform a repair installation.

You can follow this tutorial to perform a repair installation.

Repair Vista

If you do not have a Microsoft Windows Vista recovery CD-ROM or Microsoft Windows Vista DVD you can download a Microsoft windows vista recovery disk via the following link.

PC Recovery Disk

This file is an iso file so you will have to burn the iso file onto a CD-ROM and make it bootable. There is a tutorial on how to do this if you don’t know how.

Burning ISO

You might be able to perform a Microsoft Windows system restore. You would restore windows back to before you were having this problem with Microsoft office. I can give you instructions showing you how to perform a system restore.

Click the Microsfot Windows Vista start menu button. Type “System Restore” into a search box. Select “System Restore”.

Click on “Continue” in the user account control dialogue. Click on “Next”. You should see a list of restore points.

Choose one that you think is before you were having problems with Microsoft Office. There might be a “Show restore points older than 5 days” check box. Selecting that check box will show more restore points if available.

Choose your restore point by clicking on one. Click on “Next”. In the last screen you want to click on “Finish”.

This will begin the Microsoft windows system restore process. Your computer will automatically get rebooted. Hopefully, this will fix your Microsoft Office problem.

If not, I have two additional scans you can run. You can run both check disk and system file check scans. You must open a command prompt with administrator rights.

Type in the following command:

sfc /scannow

I recommend running this scan three times. Now you want to schedule a check disk scan. Type this command into a command prompt:

chkdsk c: /f /r

You will be presented with a volume in use message. Type Y for yes at that prompt. You will need to restart your computer.

A check disk scan should automatically begin with in 10 seconds. Do NOT touch your keyboard. If that check disk scan does not start, then follow the previous instructions to schedule it again.

These instructions were written for Microsoft Windows Vista operating system. These solutions would also work with other versions of Microsoft windows operating systems. For example Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows 7.

Task Manager Application – Not Working Fix

Task Manager Application

Are you no longer able to get into Microsoft Windows operating system task manager to stop processes and applications from running? This is a sure sign that you have adware, spyware, malware, and or viruses on your computer. This PC optimization tool will basically delete any unnecessary files and registry items to make your computer run better.

You can run both cleaner and registry scans with this tool. Junk files and a cluttered registry might be causing your Microsoft Windows task manager from not opening up correctly. I think you may still have a virus or some kind of malware and spyware on your computer if Microsoft Windows Task Manager will NOT open up, after using a PC optimization tool.

You can check for malware and spyware with my preferred spyware removal tool. I would then run a full virus scan with your installed antivirus software. I know they may take a while to run but I have seen running a complete virus scan including PC optimization and malware as well as spyware scans, which fixed major adware, spyware, malware, virus issues.

If you are still unable to get Microsoft Windows operating system task manager to work after running scans with the three a fore mentioned software programs then you might try booting the computer into windows safe mode and this time try using System Restore. In order to access Microsoft Windows safe mode you press your F8 key before Microsoft Windows operating system attempts to boot. An advanced boot options menu should open up.

You can choose “Last known good configuration” from that advanced boot options menu. If you still have a non functioning Microsoft Windows task manager, then there are some additional system scans you can run. Choose from one of the following:

* safe mode
* Safe mode with networking
* safe mode with command prompt

You are advised to run both system file check and check disk scans. Type the following into a command prompt with administrator rights:

sfc /scannow

I advise running this system file check scan three times. Now you want to run a check disk scan. Type the following command into a command prompt with administrator rights:

chkdsk c: /f /r

A check disk scan can potentially take hours to complete. Now see if your Microsoft Windows operating system’s task manager works. If you do NOT have antivirus currently installed on your computer then there are two antivirus software that I recommend.

Do not have a reliable antivirus program installed? You can check out this preferred discount anti virus. You can check out another antivirus I recommend and use in my business.

Once you install some antivirus software, then you definitely want to run a full virus scan with that software. Earlier I had mentioned a Microsoft Windows system restore. If all else fails so far, you can attempt to restore your Microsoft Windows operating system back to when Microsoft Windows task manager still functioned.

Type in “System Restore” into a search box. Now choose “Create a restore point”. Follow along with the prompts.

Make certain that you choose a restore point back to before this problem started occurring. These instructions were written not for one specific Microsoft Windows operating system. You can use these general guidelines for Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Vista, Microsoft Windows 7, Microsoft Windows 8, Microsoft Windows 8.1, and Microsoft Windows 10 operating systems.

Sound Fix – For Your Computer Audio Problem

Sound Fix

Having problems with your computer’s audio device? Check to make sure your able to hook up head phones or another set of speakers to your computer first. It is possible that you are having an issue with your sound card driver, if your not able to hear any sound when hooking up different headphones or speakers.

If it is indeed a problem with the computer sound driver you can go to “Start” then “Control Panel” in Microsoft Windows operating system. Go into “Device Manager” and see if there is a yellow exclamation point next to your audio device. If the yellow exclamation point exists you can right click the audio device and select delete.

There is a refresh icon in the Microsoft Windows device manager that you can click after deleting the audio device. Device Manager will find the audio device again and try to install the drivers for it again. If windows update is enabled it will try to download the drivers from the internet other wise you will be prompted for your installation media. For example, your original sound card CD-ROM or Microsoft Windows CD-ROM.

I want to warn you that if you permanently delete your sound card driver and you do NOT have the driver CD-ROM when you purchased it, then you could have potentially caused yourself further time. I would make certain whether or not you still possess this driver CD-ROM. If you are dealing with an integrated sound device then you may or may not have received a drivers CD-ROM from the original equipment manufacturer.

If you do NOT possess a audio device sound driver CD-ROM then you can search for it on the Internet. Microsoft does NOT always provide a sound card or audio device driver. You may have to look for the sound driver on the manufacturer’s website.

Also, you can often times search for sound drivers from computer manufacturers. For example Dell, Lenovo, Hewlett Packard, etc. Newer Microsoft Windows operating systems give you basically two choices when it comes to removing the sound driver.

You will be given the choice to uninstall the driver and then there maybe a check box labeled “Delete the driver software for this device”. If you know that you do NOT possess this audio driver, then I would not delete the driver. This will leave you with an audio device or sound card that lacks a driver.

This means that you will NOT be able to get it functional without the driver. However, deleting the driver from your computer can be advantageous in situations where that audio driver has become corrupt. Another way to potentially provide a sound fix, is to update your audio driver.

Microsoft operating systems will attempt to search for an update to your sound driver. This may just fix your problem. Also, you can just uninstall your sound device from device manager.

Then you can restart your computer. Microsoft Windows operating system will then detect your sound device again and install the audio driver that is still located on your computer’s hard drive. I always warn people about permanently deleting a driver from Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Mass Effect Game – Not Playing Fix For Windows 7

Cannot get the Mass Effect video game to play on Microsoft Windows 7 operating system? You can download and install the most current patch for this Mass Effect video game. If that does not resolve your issue you can try upgrading your video card driver by going into your Microsoft Windows 7 operating system control panel.

In device manager find and highlight your video display adapter or graphics adapter and then double click it or right click it and select “Properties”. In the properties there should be an upgrade driver button. If you are using Microsoft windows updates then the most current driver should then download via Microsoft windows updates.

Another option would be to try changing the Mass Effect video game desktop shortcut to “Run as administrator”. You right click that Mass Effect video game desktop shortcut and then select “Properties” from that menu. Browse to the “Compatibility” tab in properties and then check the “Run this program as an administrator” box.

Click on “OK” and then try to run that video game software program again. If all else fails you can try to remove this Mass Effect video game and then install again. I recommend you use a PC optimization tool to clean up your computer first before you attempt to install this video game software again.

Sometimes on Microsoft Windows operating systems, junk files and registry entries accumulate to the point you notice computer problems similar to a software program not working correctly. You can run both cleaner and registry scans. The cleaning of your computer will remove junk files.

The registry scan will look for and remove unnecessary registry entries. Once this task is performed then you can install Mass Effect video game software like normal. Hopefully, you are now able to play this video game.

If you are still having problems getting this Mass Effect video game software to work successfully, you can run two Microsoft Windows system scans. The first one is called a system file check. You want to type this command into a command prompt with administrator rights:

sfc /scannow

I recommend running this scan three times. The second Microsoft Windows system scan you can perform is what is known as a check disk scan. You want to type the following command into a command prompt with administrator rights:

chkdsk c: /f /r

You want to type Y for yes when you are notified that the volume is in use. This will schedule a check disk scan for the next Microsoft Windows restart. You want to restart your computer.

Do NOT touch the keyboard. A check disk scan should begin with 10 seconds. This scan cant potentially take hours to run.

If this scan does NOT begin, then schedule that scan again with the instructions I already provided to you. Hopefully, you can finally begin playing Mass Effect video game on Microsoft Windows 7. Speaking of Microsoft Windows 7 operating system.

These instructions were written for a computer with Microsoft Windows 7 operating system installed. However, you can use these troubleshooting steps as a basis point for other Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Windows Chkdsk – Can Fix Your Crashing Computer

Windows chkdsk

What to do if your Microsoft windows computer crashes unexpectedly? Some users receive the following error message:

“The file or directory C:\$Secure is corrupt and unreadable. Please run chkdsk utility”

You can boot your Microsoft Windows computer into safe mode by pressing the F8 key right after your computer BIOS screen flashes and before Microsoft windows attempt to boot and select “Safe Mode” from that advanced boot options menu. In Microsoft Windows Safe Mode click on “Start” then select “Run” and type CMD in the run box and then click “Ok”. In that black command prompt window type this command:

chkdsk c: /f /r

That check disk scan may take a while to run but hopefully it will fix any bad sectors. Another option is to boot your computer in safe mode again and this time run

chkntfs /x c:

in a command prompt. Finally, you can boot off your Microsoft Windows installation CD-ROM and hit the R key to get into the Recovery Console. Once in Recovery Console type this command:

chkdsk c: /p /r

If that does NOT fix your problem then you can try a repair installation of Microsoft Windows operating system. Another option would be to boot into safe mode and this time select “Last Known Good Configuration”. You do NOT have to use your Microsoft Windows media to boot with last known good configuration.

If you hit the F8 key after you see your BIOS screen flashes and right before Microsoft windows operating system tries to boot you will see the advanced boot options menu. Please select “Last Known Good Configuration” from that menu. Hopefully the computer will boot normally.

It is worth trying last known good configuration, because I have seen it fix issues like this before. Yes it is possible that your hard drive is failing. This is unfortunate however it is worth trying to repair your installation of Microsoft Windows operating system.

Two additional repair solutions are specifically geared towards Microsoft Windows Vista operating system. One option is if the hard drive is still good would be to run Microsoft Windows Vista’s “System File Checker” in safe mode. You can follow those instructions below.

System File Checker

Basically, in a command prompt after booting into safe mode you type the following command:

sfc /scannow

System file check will check for any corrupt system files and attempt to repair or replace them. A second option would be to run an upgrade or repair installation of Vista. You should NOT loose any of your data but some Microsoft Windows Vista settings might be reset.

You can follow some instructions for a Microsoft Windows Vista repair installation below.

Installation and Repair

Performing a repair installation requires that you physically have a Microsoft Windows Vista CD-ROM disc. Basically, you will be performing a Microsoft Windows installation. However, you do NOT want to delete any data.

Therefore you are performing what is known as a repair installation. This is an advanced technique and many end users do NOT know that this type of Microsoft Windows operating system repair installation is even available. You need to proceed with caution and do NOT format your hard drive.

Many of these instructions were written for Microsoft Windows Vista operating system. However, they can be used as a basis point certainly for other Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Hunting Unlimited PC – Fix Prism 3d Engine Problem For Game

When trying to play Hunting Unlimited 2009, you may get Prism 3d engine problem pop up error message and then you are unable to play that game. You can try updating your Microsoft Directx software to the most current version. You can type in this command into a run box to find out what version of Directx you have installed.

dxdiag

Update DirectX

To start the Microsoft Directx installation immediately, click on “Open” or “Run” this program from its current location. Also, you can download Microsoft Directx to your computer by choosing “Save”. Double click this download to begin the installation process.

Microsoft Directx is a tool that allows you to participate in multimedia and game play. Another possible solution is to update your version of Oracle Java to the latest version. You can download and install the latest Java version from the link below.

Updating Java

Finally, you can try updating your video card drivers. Right click “My Computer” select “Properties” then select the “Hardware” tab. Then click on “Device Manager” and expand “Display Adapters”.

Right click on your display adapter(s) and choose “Update Driver”. Now choose “Yes this time only” or “Yes now and every time I connect a device” in the Hardware Update Wizard. If that does NOT fix your issue you can find the name of your graphics card and try to find the newest driver for it.

Obviously if any of these components are failing then you would need to repair them. You can always download Microsoft Directx and or Oracle Java from the previous links provided. Then you would remove Microsoft Directx and or Oracle Java from your Microsoft Windows computer.

Before reinstalling Microsoft Directx or Oracle Java, you may want to use my preferred PC Optimization tool. This program will remove junk files and registry entries that are no longer needed. You can run both cleaner and registry scans with this PC optimization tool.

Now you would then install Microsoft Directx and or Oracle Java. Here are the requirements for playing Hunting Unlimited 2009:

* Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows Vista operating system
* Pentium 4 1.4 Gigahertz or faster compatible processor
* 256 megabytes of random access memory
* Direct X 9.0 or newer which is included on the CD-ROM
* 1 Gigabytes of hard disk space
* CD-ROM optical drive
* 64 Megabytes Direct X 9 compatible graphics card
* Direct X 9 compatible sound card
* Mouse and Keyboard

Microsoft Directx 9.0 C is compatible with Microsoft Windows XP service pack 2, Microsoft Windows XP service pack 3, Microsoft Windows Vista, and Microsoft Windows 7 operating systems. These instructions were written for Microsoft Windows Vista operating system. However, they can be used as a basis point for other Microsoft operating systems.

Pdf Problem – Can’t open .pdf files in Adobe Acrobat Reader?

PDF Problem

Are you unable to open .pdf files in Adobe Acrobat Reader all of the sudden? You may receive the “Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error! Program: C:\Program Files (x86) AdobeReader This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application’s support team for more information.” error message when attempting to open Adobe Acrobat PDF files. If removing and reinstalling Adobe Acrobat Reader program does not solve the problem, then the following solutions just may work.

If you do attempt to remove and reinstall Adobe Acrobat Reader then perhaps using a PC optimization tool may help solve your problem. Sometimes cleaning up junk files and removing unnecessary Microsoft Windows registry entries can fix problems like an application that refuses to open. You may want to run cleaner and registry scans with my preferred PC optimization tool.

1. One of the easiest solutions is to go into the properties of the Adobe Acrobat Reader AcroRd32.exe executable by right clicking on the AcroRd32.exe executable and then selecting “Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 2)”. You may also have to perform this on the Adobe Acrobat Reader Acrobat.exe executable as well.

2. Another possible solution, if the previous one does not work is to try right clicking the executable(s) again only this time select “Run as Administrator”. Then proceed with the first set of instructions. You want to run Adobe Acrobat Reader AcroRd32.exe and Acrobat.exe executable with administrator credentials.

3. Finally, editing the following Microsoft Windows registry key will hopefully fix your error. To accomplish this you click the Microsoft Windows “Start” menu button and then select “Run”. Type in “Regedit” then click on “OK”.

Once in the Microsoft Windows registry editor, navigate to the following location:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

On the right hand side of the Microsoft Windows registry editor highlight “AppData”. Double click “AppData” to edit this file path. Change the file path from %USERPROFILE%Application Data to %USERPROFILE%AppData.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

AppData
%USERPROFILE%Application Data
%USERPROFILE%AppData

Make certain that you are familiar with the Microsoft Windows registry, before making any changes. You can always back up the Microsoft Windows registry before making any changes. You want to open up Microsoft Windows registry.

Then select the key or sub key that you want to back up. Click on “File”. Select “Export”. Type the name of your backup file.

Now you select a location that you want to save this backup file. Finally, click on “Save”. You have successfully backed up this registry key or sub key.

Now you can make your changes via the instructions above. If you fuck anything up you can restore this back by clicking on “File. Now choose “Import” this time.

Browse to the file you just created. This file will have a .reg file name extension. Select this file.

Finally, click on “Open”. As a computer repair technician I never mess around in the Microsoft Windows registry unless absolutely necessary. Hopefully, you have fixed your problem where by Adobe Acrobat Reader would not open.

These instructions were written for a computer with Microsoft Windows XP operating system installed. However, they can certainly be used as a basis point for other Microsoft Windows operating systems.
