Dell Vostro 1000 – Keyboard and Touch Pad Re-connection How to

Recently I acquired a recycled Dell Vostro 1000 laptop computer system. Apart from having to order a replacement active current direct current power adapter, this laptop was in pretty good condition. However, I noticed when I installed Microsoft Windows Vista Business operating system, that a touch pad would flake out when this laptop went to sleep.

It could either be the Microsoft Windows operating system and perhaps this hard drive needs to get scrubbed and Vista installed again. I thought I would try a quicker potential solution by just disconnecting this touch pad from that motherboard and connecting it again. I found out that this touch pad connection to the motherboard is actually under the keyboard.

In order to remove that keyboard you must remove the plastic covering at top of this Dell Vostro laptop computer that includes the power button. You will want to remove this skinny plastic piece and then you will notice two screws holding down this keyboard. Also, I noticed that this keyboard was not screwed down from under neath this laptop computer like some keyboards are.

You will want to remove two screws right above this keyboard. You can then pull up and towards the display screen in order to remove it. You may want to try being careful as you do not want to break any keys off.

If you are not aware, laptop computer keyboard keys can be a pain in order to install them again, if they become detached. Actually, these laptop keys can even become impossible to connect again, which leads you to buying keyboard keys kits, which do not always work or ordering a replacement keyboard. Once you have dislodged this keyboard you will want to become careful to not pull out this keyboard entirely yet, as it is connected to the motherboard with a ribbon cable.

You do not necessarily have to entirely remove this keyboard by disconnecting it from motherboard in order to access the touch pad connection. Right above this touch pad and below where this keyboard was positioned, you will notice a small ribbon cable with a blue marking connected to the Dell Vostro computer system motherboard. You will want to disconnect this cable and then connect it again.

Once connected again, you can place the laptop computer keyboard back where you found it. You will want to place two screws you removed right above this keyboard. You will need to place the long skinny plastic piece that includes the power button back above the keyboard you just installed where you originally found it. Hopefully, these instructions and tips will help you solve that flaky touch pad problem.
