How to Replace HP 15-DW0083WM Laptop Hard Drive

If you own a Hewlett Packard 15-DW0083WM laptop computer you may be wondering how to remove and replace the hard drive. In order to access the hard drive, you will need to remove a total of six screws. Two of these screws are located on the bottom front.

The other four screws are located on the bottom rear. There is a rubber strip that you will need to remove. The four screws are located underneath this rubber strip.

Once you remove these six total screws. You can then separate the satin silver bottom cover from the colorful top cover. You are advised not to attempt to separate these two pieces of plastic until you have removed all six screws.

You can use a guitar pick, smartphone pick, etc. to separate the bottom cover from the case, so to speak. You want to separate all sides of the two plastic pieces. Do not forget the ends near the liquid crystal display.

Once you have successfully separated these two pieces, then you can remove the bottom cover from the rest of the plastic case. When flipping the Hewlett Packard 15-DW0083WM, face down the hard drive is located in the top right corner. The laptop computer I purchased came with an M2 2280 solid state hard drive.

This type of hard drive looks similar to a random access memory module. There was one screw that held this hard drive in place. You can remove this screw with a Philips style screw driver.

Then you can remove this solid state M2 2280 hard drive. You will want to pull out the hard drive away from the socket it is installed in. You may need to pull up the hard drive before you pull it out of the socket.

Hewlett Packard recommends you remove the battery when removing or replacing the hard drive. I did not perform this additional step. You may want to disconnect the power cable from the battery whenever you are working on this Hewlett Packard 15-DW0083WM laptop computer.

Below is a list of hard drives including part numbers that are compatible with this 15-DW0083WM laptop computer. Supposedly, you can install any one of these hard drives into your Hewlett Packard 15-DW0083WM laptop computer. I would not take my word for it.

You may want to perform some further research out on the Internet and verify whether or not these hard drives will fit into the solid state drive slot.

  • 512 Gigabytes Peripheral Component Interconnect Express Model L52006-001
  • 512 Gigabytes Peripheral Component Interconnect Express Triple Level Cell Model L56705-001
  • 256 Gigabytes Serial Advanced Technology Attachment 3 Triple Level Cell Model L52004-001
  • 256 Gigabytes Peripheral Component Interconnect Express Model L52005-001
  • 128 Gigabytes Serial Advanced Technology Attachment 3, Triple Level Cell Model L52003-001

One tip is to just find the model number off of the solid state drive you just removed and order a replacement. You may be able to find that same model of hard drive on Amazon, eBay, etc. If you want to upgrade your hard drive, then like I stipulated earlier, you may want to research on the Internet to make certain the hard drive of choice will in fact fit.

You see the Hewlett Packard 15-DW0083WM laptop computer I purchased came with a 128 Gigabytes serial advanced technology attachment 3 triple level cell model L52003-001 hard drive. I have ordered one of these M2 solid state hard drives that was supposedly compatible to find out when I went to install it into a different laptop, it ended up not being detected by the basic input output system. That was a total waste of time and money.

The physical solid state serial advanced technology attachment was shaped similar to a random access memory module. However, on one end, it had two gaps. A gap at each end of the hard drive where the metal connectors slide into the hard drive slot.

Hopefully, you are able to successfully install, replace, and remove your solid state hard drive. Now you may want to quickly power on the computer and enter the basic input output system to verify whether or not the hard drive you just installed was successfully detected. Once the basic input output system successfully detects your hard drive, you can screw it down with one screw and proceed to install the back cover again.

There are just six total screws that hold the two pieces of plastic together.

this is Aaron with anetcomputers.com

0:03

another video for you today I wanted to

0:05

show you how you can replace a hard

0:07

drive in a Hewlett-Packard

0:11

15-dw zero laptop

0:14

there are multiple models with the 15-tw

0:19

this video may help you remove the hard

0:21

drive okay so I have it based down and I

0:24

already removed the screws but let me

0:25

point out you have to remove six screws

0:27

first

0:28

now this is face down

0:31

bottom

0:32

you know what I'm saying

0:34

you have to there's also a rubber insert

0:37

here you have to remove the rubber

0:38

insert there's more screws one two three

0:42

four then on the front there's just two

0:45

you you notice a rubber you do not need

0:47

to remove that one obviously because the

0:49

screws are down here I have no idea why

0:50

they did that one

0:53

two

0:54

says screws you just have to remove six

0:57

screws if you don't remove them and you

1:00

try to take this laptop computer part

1:02

Hewlett Packard 15 DW

1:05

you're gonna crack so

1:08

the

1:09

plastic you know what I mean okay so

1:13

then

1:15

the the bottom will come off or

1:20

if it's facing like

1:24

if it's facing like this

1:30

then you would lift

1:34

the lid

1:37

and then

1:39

it would it would separate all right I'm

1:42

doing this because if I put it to if I

1:45

put it together a certain way it's gonna

1:48

it's gonna stick okay

1:50

so what you would do is in order to

1:54

take the two pieces apart you're going

1:57

to separate the red from the satin

1:59

silver you'll need a Phillips

2:01

screwdriver to remove the six screws and

2:04

then you will need

2:06

maybe a guitar pick maybe a plastic pick

2:10

like for a smartphone or maybe metal but

2:13

be careful

2:14

you know what I mean something that you

2:16

see how the edge is like that so that

2:19

you can separate you want something that

2:21

will separate the two pieces of plastic

2:24

maybe even something like this all right

2:26

so you would just take it

2:28

or even a finger now but maybe maybe not

2:31

and then get it in there and then start

2:33

separating the two pieces of plastic and

2:37

then as soon as it there's a gap just

2:39

keep going all the way around all the

2:42

way aside even in the corner all the way

2:44

on this side and back here so you want

2:47

to separate the satin silver from the

2:50

red

2:51

because you loosen six screws okay then

2:54

you could lift up like this

2:57

and then you notice how it's completely

3:00

apart now I will show you where the hard

3:03

drive is at

3:04

and so the hard drive is right there

3:07

this is not obviously a

3:10

standard SATA it's just it's not even a

3:13

state obviously it's a solid state but

3:16

it's one of the NVM type

3:19

you know what I'm saying it looks like a

3:21

memory module that's it right there so

3:24

this one came with a 128 gigabyte memory

3:27

module that I want I won't even be able

3:30

to do it I'll take but I want to

3:33

install a larger size hard drive you

3:37

know what I'm saying so what you would

3:39

do is you just take I should have taken

3:41

it out but I wanted to show it like it

3:43

how it was still installed

3:45

so you just take a screwdriver you know

3:48

what I might be able to accomplish it

3:49

with one hand it's kind of hard with one

3:51

hand but that's it it's just a memory

3:53

module type solid state drive it may

3:57

have the model another I'll give you

3:59

some tips here

4:01

you know I'm going to upgrade the hard

4:02

drive however you want to look up the

4:04

specifications and make sure that these

4:07

Hewlett Packard

4:09

DW

4:12

laptops the 15-dws

4:16

well the hard drive size I I've already

4:19

looked it up

4:21

it's got a 120 I think it supports 256

4:24

maybe 512. I'm going to look it up again

4:26

but like I said before you want to and

4:29

then I might even replace it I don't

4:30

know if it's worth

4:32

you know I like you know I definitely

4:33

going to try to upgrade it but I might

4:36

it's only 128 gigabytes and then this

4:41

also video could help you if you need to

4:42

replace it

4:44

and it's just right there

4:47

and there's a ribbon cable here you

4:50

don't want to miss run with any of that

4:51

but it you just unscrew it and then you

4:54

just pull it out I will try to do it

4:55

here

4:57

you know I should have done it already

4:59

but I will need to let it lay it flat so

5:03

that what I can do

5:04

is I can get some leverage on that screw

5:08

you know what I'm saying

5:10

okay sorry about that so you just it's

5:13

just one screw and you just gotta push a

5:16

little bit Yeah if you if if I had it on

5:19

the side like that it's hard for me to

5:21

get enough leverage on the screw

5:24

gonna gonna have to kind of push down on

5:27

it a little bit

5:29

okay so one screw is loose on you

5:33

you know yeah you have to your screws

5:35

must be loose if you

5:37

okay that's it and then you just you can

5:40

pull up on it

5:44

and you see how easy that is yeah these

5:48

are real easy but it doesn't require

5:50

much

5:51

effort just lift up on it to make it

5:53

loose and then just pull out

5:55

that's it and so you can see you might

5:59

see the model number it's a solid state

6:03

and I think the model number is there

6:05

yeah

6:08

so but I want I want to upgrade it but

6:10

again make sure double check verify on

6:13

your own don't just take my order and

6:16

then to install it you obviously get

6:17

they have to be the right type now these

6:20

NVM type

6:22

right here these gold plates are

6:24

different sometimes they have you notice

6:27

the gaps on both sides sometimes the

6:29

gaps are different space I'm not making

6:31

this up sometimes I think I could be

6:33

wrong but I think sometimes there's only

6:35

a gap on one side or the Gap you see

6:38

where the spaces are the the gaps well

6:41

you notice

6:43

yeah I think through the scene but

6:46

sometimes

6:47

they're a different size Gap and they

6:51

look almost identical but when you go to

6:53

install it it doesn't fit because

6:57

because you're

7:00

you know the connector has to have you

7:03

know it has to fit the right size okay

7:06

so all you do is and then you just push

7:08

in a little bit it's kind of hard

7:11

because I'm doing this one hand but

7:12

there you go so it doesn't require much

7:14

effort just push in and this one just

7:17

kind of sets down

7:19

and then he's just obviously put the

7:20

screw back and then put the laptop

7:22

together

7:24

so I have about 30 seconds that's it

7:27

that's how you replace the hard drive

7:29

on a Hewlett Packard

7:34

15-tw-0 and I will try to find this

7:37

specific model number for this laptop if

7:39

not the Hewlett Packard 15-tw serial

7:43

Series Laptops

7:45

you can you can you know use this video

7:48

at the very least if it does have a NVM

7:52

you're just gonna and it could be

7:55

screwed down with more than one screw or

7:57

maybe a a wider one

8:00

you know what I'm saying at least this

8:02

video helps you just the basics make

8:05

sure that if there's more screws

8:07

involved

8:09

remove them all like I showed you where

8:11

the rubber was the two rubber you can go

8:14

back early in this video okay

8:16

you see where the rubber right there

8:19

that one I that the top one I didn't

8:21

take it the bottom one I had to all

8:23

right

8:24

just be thorough be thorough because you

8:27

just never know what can happen is that

8:29

you start to

8:32

take the laptop apart and then you don't

8:35

you didn't remove all the screws

8:37

and then you start to break the the

8:41

plastic case you know what I'm saying in

8:43

this case it's very flimsy very flimsy

8:46

so just be thorough make sure to remove

8:49

all the screws and then make you know

8:51

then you know

8:53

any screws for the and then take it out

8:56

properly and again do perform your own

8:58

research and find out the exact model of

9:03

Hewlett Packard 15-tw so that when you

9:06

order the hard drive it it will be

9:08

correct now I think I looked it up once

9:10

before and these are only like 15 15 for

9:13

these little 128 gigabytes so but I like

9:16

to get up to 256 or all right so that is
