ONN Portable USB 2.0 Hub

Are you looking for a universal serial bus 2.0 hub? This is a review of an ONN Portable USB 2.0 hub that I purchased at Walmart for just $9.88 cents. That last number sure is interesting for a price tag.

Anyways, I acquired a universal serial bus 1.1 four port hub over a decade ago. I was given that device for free. Recently, it began to stop working correctly.

I took it apart and found that the solder became lose and thus it would quit working intermittently. Also, since I do not possess a soldering iron, I could not fix it. Thus, my trip to a local Walmart to find a universal serial bus hub.

Actually, I performed some searches on Walmart.com prior to my physical trip. Just because Walmart's website stipulates a product is available does not necessarily mean that the same product will actually be in stock. I found what I was looking for in this ONN Portable USB 2.0 hub.

ONN, I believe, is an exclusive Walmart brand. First, I will give you the specifications from the packaging.

  • Universal Serial Bus 2.0 Hub
  • Includes 4 Universal Serial Bus Ports
  • Each Port Includes Data Transfer Speeds up to 480 Megabits Per Second
  • an Attached 4 Inch Universal Serial Bus Connector Cable
  • Compatible With Apple Macintosh and Microsoft Windows Computers
  • 500 Millieamps Total Output

The packaging did not mention that Linux was a supported operating system. However, I was able to connect this ONN universal serial bus 2.0 hub to a Hewlett Packard computer with the Lubuntu operating system installed. Lubuntu is a Debian Linux derivation distribution operating system.

All you have to do is plug in the universal serial bus 2.0 connector to the universal serial bus port on your computer. Now you have extended one universal serial bus port to four ports. One caveat is that the 500 Millieamps is the total for all four ports.

If you connect devices that use more than 500 Millieamps, you will most likely run into problems. I connected a Dell universal serial bus keyboard, ONN universal serial bus mouse, Logitech universal serial bus C270 web camera, and a Heyday universal serial bus condenser microphone. All four devices worked properly.

As a matter of fact, I further tested the Logitech C270 universal serial bus web camera and the hub streamed 1280 by 720 video without any problems. None of these devices require external power. The provided instructions stipulated that if any universal serial bus 2.0 devices require separate power, then you want to use the power adapter that is included.

Then you will connect this device to the ONN universal serial bus 2.0 hub after that device is powered on. Also, all four ports are limited to 500 Millieamps total. For example, an external universal serial bus hard drive will often require around 900 Millieamps.

This ONN universal serial bus 2.0 hub is plug and play. You do not need to power off your computer or device before you connect it to the provided universal serial bus port connection. Also, the universal serial bus 2.0 hub connector actually plugs into one of the four universal serial bus ports, I guess as storage when you move the hub.

Here is some more technical information that may be useful to you.

  • Maximum 500 Millieamps Output Across 4 Ports
  • Microsoft Windows 7, 8, and 10 Operating System Compatible
  • Apple Macintosh Operating System 10.5 Leopard Compatible
  • Universal Serial Bus Plug and Play

This ONN universal serial bus 2.0 hub has the capability to charge devices. You could possibly connect it to a lamp, smart television, vehicle charging ports, etc. and use it to just charge your devices. You might be able to charge 4 devices at a time as long as they are universal serial bus 2.0 capable.

So far, I have not had any problems with this ONN universal serial bus 2.0 hub. All four devices work without any problems. Hopefully, this review was a productive use of your time.

this is an Owen and Universal zero bus

2.0 portable hub

0:13

I purchased it at Walmart for I think

0:17

9.88 so 88 that's an interesting number

0:22

anyways

0:25

since it is portable it has three ports

0:28

on the front that you can see and then

0:30

on the side which really is the end

0:33

the side the end

0:35

it has a fourth Port so what you can do

0:38

with with this portable Hub is convert

0:41

one universal serial bus Port into four

0:46

you can use this on laptops desktop

0:49

computers

0:51

tablets

0:53

any kind of a Computing device that has

0:56

a universal serial Force Port it will

1:00

also charge so you could possibly plug

1:02

this into

1:04

perhaps I know some Hotel a lot of

1:07

hotels nowadays have

1:09

lamps with universal stereo bus ports

1:12

also Vehicles a lot of the more modern

1:15

vehicles have built-in Universal zero

1:18

bus ports you could install this

1:20

portable hub

1:22

to then charge

1:24

posible for cuatro devices

1:29

okay we'll get to some of the more

1:30

technical specifications but I just want

1:32

to show you on screen

1:34

and it also has a very short cable on

1:37

the right hand side it is only four

1:40

inches long

1:43

I tested this I installed it on a

1:46

Hewlett Packard laptop just a you know

1:50

quad core proverbial

1:53

Hewlett Packard laptop that you could

1:56

purchase just about anywhere Best Buy

1:58

Walmart

1:59

Etc Ad nauseam at infant item

2:03

and it worked

2:04

I was able to plug in four devices I

2:07

plugged in a universal serial bus

2:09

keyboard a universal zero bus Mouse

2:13

a universal serial bus Logitech C270

2:16

webcam and finally

2:19

a universal serial bus

2:23

condenser microphone that I purchased at

2:25

Walmart and I have a video on my

2:29

internet computers YouTube channel where

2:30

I demonstrated that same Universal

2:34

cereal bus condenser microphone also I

2:36

have a video on my YouTube channel where

2:38

I demonstrated the Logitech C270 web

2:42

camera I did not have any problems now

2:44

there are some limitations and I will

2:46

get to that in the specifications I was

2:49

also using Linux

2:51

I was using a lubuntu

2:54

flash Universal zero bus drive but it

2:58

was on a separate Universal zero bus

3:00

Port channel that Hewlett Packard laptop

3:03

only had two Universal serial bus ports

3:05

total in totality and

3:09

I acquired about a decade ago in

3:12

Universal zero bus 1.1

3:16

Hub and it started to fail

3:19

it was old and I retired it and I

3:23

replaced it with this I connected all

3:26

four of those Dimension devices didn't

3:28

have any problems

3:32

and another

3:34

quick

3:35

anecdotal evidence perhaps or

3:39

piece of information the Logitech C270

3:42

is capable of 1280x720 in other words

3:47

720p 720 pixels what you know what I'm

3:50

saying video quality and the Hub

3:54

was able to

3:58

capture 720p video without any problems

4:02

you know what I'm saying now remember

4:04

it's a universal serial bus 2.0 Hub

4:07

therefore it is limited it is not a

4:11

universal zero bus 3.0 3.1 3.3 I think

4:15

they are already developing 3.4 or

4:19

something like that anyways it is

4:21

limited to

4:26

480 megabits per second so we'll get to

4:29

the specifications now here is the

4:33

actual

4:34

package insert that it came in that you

4:37

can see

4:39

you know what I'm saying and that's all

4:42

and then inside that insert was this

4:44

little

4:46

piece of Orange

4:49

with the technical specifications and

4:51

then also there was some instructions

4:54

there's not a whole lot because it's a

4:56

very simple device it's very portable

4:58

but I will just I'm not gonna you know

5:01

I'll just quickly show you what they

5:03

look like but it did come with some

5:05

quick instructions and a warning a

5:06

statement warning pertaining to you know

5:09

electricity

5:11

and

5:13

well it doesn't it doesn't you you know

5:15

what I'm saying as far as it's real Plug

5:17

and Play now if you use any devices that

5:20

require

5:22

more power than this unit will provide

5:25

than you want to use the power adapter

5:29

some Universal surro bus devices

5:31

actually have separate power adapters

5:33

this only we'll get to the technical

5:36

specification

5:38

so we can go over those technical

5:40

specifications

5:42

so I have about 2 minutes and 20 seconds

5:48

you do not have to restart the computer

5:51

or turn it off this is Plug and Play

5:54

now there are again there are some

5:56

peripherals that will require higher

5:58

levels of power you would want to use

6:01

their own power adapters before you

6:04

would connect it to the this universal

6:06

cerebus hub so you would plug in power

6:09

and then connect that device to the hub

6:12

all right and then I would not advise

6:14

that you try to you

6:16

devices that require more power because

6:18

this Hub I think only

6:20

is capable of a certain what 500

6:24

milliamp hours we'll get to that so

6:26

there are three universes robust ports

6:28

three on one side one on the end

6:32

all right

6:36

the maximum output is 500 milliamp

6:42

across all four ports so that's in

6:44

totality that's when you add them up

6:46

it supports Microsoft Windows operating

6:50

system version 7 8 and 10.

6:53

also Macintosh operating system 10.5 or

6:58

newer and Linux I was using lebuntu

7:01

which is a Debian derivation

7:03

distribution and I did not have any

7:05

problems

7:10

what version of Ubuntu well it's it's

7:12

based on off of I think

7:15

hip on 222 I think okay let's move on

7:19

22.0.4 I think to become more precise we

7:23

went over how many ports it has

7:26

okay now the data transfer speeds are up

7:29

to 480

7:36

megabits per second now if you require

7:39

USB

7:40

3.0 which are usually the blue

7:43

blue Universal zero bus connectors it

7:47

may just downgrade or if it's a if it's

7:49

a specific device it may not have enough

7:51

bandwidth bandwidth just to let you know

7:55

a four inch

7:57

connector cable that you connect to the

7:59

device such as a laptop desktop tablet

8:03

it is universal cerebus plug and play

8:09

okay so you do not want to exceed 500

8:13

milliamps

8:14

okay now here's some examples of devices

8:17

that

8:18

and how much they require a mouse a

8:21

typical Universal zero bus Mouse is 50

8:23

milliamps a typical Universal service

8:26

flash drive is 100 milliamps

8:30

a web camera is 200 milliamps a

8:35

universal zero bus keyboard is 50

8:37

milliamps and an external hard drive is

8:42

900

8:44

milliamps so you would not so that's a

8:47

quiz okay quickly I'll give you a couple

8:49

of seconds which device would you not

8:52

want to connect

8:58

if you guessed what you should know but

9:00

well I gave it away I wouldn't expect an

9:03

average you know consumer to know that

9:05

but I gave it I gave it away you would

9:08

not want to connect an external

9:10

Universal serial bus hard drive because

9:12

they require around 900 milliamp hours

9:15

and this has 500 milliamps total across

9:18

all four ports so all you do is you plug

9:21

and I'll show it to the the end

9:25

into a universal zero bus port

9:30

and that's it anything on this little

9:33

orange card I think we went over all the

9:35

technical specifications

9:39

yes okay so quickly in in closing

9:42

what you would do is you would connect

9:45

this and right here right there and you

9:48

notice that little Notch right there

9:49

that is so that you can plug it into one

9:51

of the existing Universal Sierra bus

9:53

ports for storage I guess I'll show it

9:55

to you

10:00

so then it plugs in just like that

10:03

I guess that's for storage it's a very

10:06

small small small

10:09

ONN Universal zero bus 2.0 so that was
