Remote Desktop For Ubuntu - How to Connect From Microsoft to Linux

Are you interested in connecting from your Microsoft Windows operating system to Ubuntu Linux Debian derivation distrubtion operating system? You can actually connect from Microsoft Windows operating systems to Linux operating systems using Remote Desktop Connection. Remote Desktop Connection is free software that is already incoporated into Microsoft Windows operating systems.

You do not need to download and install this software since it comes installed with Microsoft Windows operating systems. This Remote Desktop Connection software allows you to remotely connect to other computers on your local area network. You will want to make sure that both your Microsoft Windows operating system based computer and Ubuntu Linux operating system based computer are on the same physical local area network.

Each computer will need an internet protocol address on that same local area network. For example your Microsoft Windows operating system based computer could have the 10.0.0.1 private internet protocol address. Then you could give the Linux operating system based computer the 10.0.0.2 internet protocol address.

You do not need to statically assign those computers internet protocol addresses. You could use dynamic host configuration protocol service and assign internet protocol addresses to these computers. As long as the internet protocol addresses are different for each computer and use the same subnetwork you should be able to connect using Microsoft Windows Remote Desktop Connection.

On your Linux operating system based computer you will want to install appropriate remote connection software. You can download and install X Remote Desktop Protocol software onto your Ubuntu Linux operating system based computer. You will need to configure this software to allow remote connections.

You do not need to use X Remote Desktop Protocol software to remotely allow and connect back to Microsoft Windows operating system based computers. You can certainly use whichever remote connection software you prefer for Linux operating systems. Once you have software installed on both Microsoft Windows operating system and Linux operating system, then you will need to allow incoming and outgoing remote connections.

You will want to allow both incoming and outgoing connections with Microsoft Windows operating system Remote Desktop Connection software. You may need to possibly configure incoming and outgoing connections in Microsoft Windows operating system firewall. Also, you may need to configure incoming and outgoing connections on your Linux operating system based computers.

For example the Ubuntu Linux operating system distributions will have a software firewall. You will just want to allow incoming and outgoing connections for the remote connection software you choose to install. This will allow you to connect from Microsoft Windows operating system to the Linux operating system.

By allowing both incoming and outgoing connections on both Microsoft Windows operating system based computers and Linux operating system based computers you can connect from Microsoft to Linux and from Linux to Microsoft. This can become very conveniant if you have multiple computers, computers in seperate rooms, etc. This will allow you to just remotely connect to your computer of choice from one computer to another.

Since Microsoft Windows operating systems already include Remote Desktop Connection software, then all you have to do is download and install a remote connection software program onto Ubuntu Linux operating system. I am not aware of any Ubuntu Linux operating system distributions including remote desktop software already installed when installing that operating system. These instructions were written as a general basis for any Microsoft Windows operating system that already came with Remote Desktop Connection software.

Also, you can use the Linux portion of these instructions, as a general basis, for any Linux operating system not just Ubuntu Linux operating system.
