I received a request for assistance with Microsoft Office 365. Here is the initial original request:
“I purchased Office 365 and am trying to install it on a second computer. I need some help. I am currently logged in on the computer that I want 365 downloaded on.”
Here is my initial original response:
You will need to first login to the office 365 portal.
You can use an existing Microsoft account. For example Google Gmail, Hotmail, Skype, Outlook, MSN, etc. Once logged into your portal, you should be able to download and install Microsoft office. This individual was able to successfully install their Microsoft Office product.
Let me give you some additions tips for installing Microsoft Office with a 365 subscription. I would definitely make certain that you save your Microsoft Office 365 license key. Also, I would choose to “Save as…” when the installation begins.
If you click on “Run” most if not all Microsoft installation files will get removed. If you choose to save the full installation to your computer, then if necessary you can reinstall Microsoft Office. Also, if you know what you are doing you can save a copy of a Microsoft Office online installer.
The problem with the Microsoft Office online installer is that in the future, when Microsoft no longer supports that particular version of office, you may not be able to reinstall with just the online installer. The online installer downloads most of the installation files from Microsoft’s servers during the install. It must connect to their servers in order for you to install Microsoft Office.
The full Microsoft Office installer, is quite large, but worth the download time. This will allow you to reinstall Microsoft Office without connecting to Microsoft servers. If Microsoft quits supporting this version of Microsoft Office, you will theoretically be able to still install Microsoft Office.
You will then need to just enter in your Microsoft Office license key. As of the time of this blog post creation you can download earlier Microsoft Office versions such as 2010, 2013, and 2016 from official Microsoft web pages. However, you must enter in a valid license key.
That is why I advised you to save your license key at towards the beginning of this blog post. As a computer technician I constantly deal with clients that either do NOT have their license key and or do NOT have the software installation CD-ROM or download.
The Microsoft Office portal is quite easy to use. If you have just purchased an Office 365 subscription you just need to login with either your email address, phone number, or Microsoft Skype account. I just found out that you can use Google Gmail email address to sign in.
If you do NOT have a Microsoft account you can create one from the login page. Once you have successfully logged into your Microsoft Office account, then you should be able to activate your recently purchased Microsoft Office 365 subscription. Your computer will be added to your subscription.
You will then be able to download and install Microsoft Office from this portal. If you exceed your Microsoft Office computer quota, you can remove a computer(s) so that you can install the software. These instructions were written for both Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh operating systems.
