Amazon.com website Incorporated now includes a delivery service when you are not home included with their Amazon delivery policy. Amazon has provided their Amazon key in home kit for years now. I order products from Amazon occasionally and, quite frankly, this home delivery service creeps me out.
This home delivery kit includes a cloud camera to spy on you, I mean provide security in case of theft. Also, included is a smart lock. Amazon will enter your home and deliver your package when you are not there.
Amazon home delivery drivers will obtain a code that expires. They will then enter your home, drop off your package and then are supposed to lock your premises. The cloud camera is supposed to videograph your deliveries.
Even if I received quite a few Amazon deliveries, I would never allow anyone into my premises without me being present. You will also receive email notifications when your packages are delivered. You and those authorized get access to your home with this smart lock.
Only those with the code will be able to open up the smart lock and get access to your house key. Amazon was charging a whopping two hundred forty-nine dollars for this device but has since dropped the prices for these devices. However, they claim you will receive a free installation by a qualified technician.
This home delivery service is only available in select cities for Amazon prime members. The included smart cam takes 1080 pixel video and even has night vision. You can keep your current dead bolt and keys or replace them.
Amazon claims that you can install this kit yourself by downloading the Amazon application on to your smart device. Also, you get notified each time someone enters or exits your door. You can even lock and unlock your door from your smart device.
When I first wrote this blog post, when this Amazon home delivery first rolled out, I could not imagine this service would succeed. To me it was and is still too ripe for abuse. I can just see the headlines when somebody gets their home robbed because of this service.
Amazon delivery will deliver the following items to your garage.
- Amazon Groceries
- Whole Foods Groceries
- Amazon Packages
This Amazon home delivery is now actually free for Amazon prime members. Anytime you order on the Amazon.com website, you can select the home delivery option at checkout. This Amazon home delivery service claims that this will prevent missing deliveries, protect packages from damage, and protect packages from inclement weather.
You can watch deliveries with a camera. Also, you are able to schedule your in home deliveries. You will need an existing smart garage door.
Then you will want to install the Amazon in home delivery application on your smartphone. You will need to link up your smart door to an Amazon Key from within the Amazon application. Next, you will turn on “In Garage Delivery”.
When you choose “In Garage Delivery” at checkout on the Amazon.com website, you will receive delivery and shipping notifications in real time. Your Amazon home delivery driver will scan your package. Then they can open your garage door.
You do not need to provide your Amazon home delivery driver with a code or open the door for them. Supposedly, Amazon verifies the delivery drivers' location and package before they are allowed to open your garage door. Amazon claims that all home delivery drivers must pass a background check.
These delivery drivers are not supposed to walk farther then five feet from the garage door. Amazon claims that once an Amazon home delivery driver delivers a package inside a garage door, they cannot open that same door again. If you have a camera, you can watch this delivery in real time.
Amazon home garage delivery service may not be available in all areas. You can use their service availability tool. You type in your zip code and then click on “Update location”.
For example, when I entered a zip code, this Amazon home delivery service lookup tool stipulated they only provide Amazon deliveries. Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Market deliveries were not available. If you already possess a smart garage door, you can configure it with Amazon Key using the Amazon application on your smartphone.
You can scan in the quick response code with your smartphone to simplify the process using the uniform resource locator I provided earlier in this blog post. If you do not possess a smart garage device, you can purchase a compatible one from Amazon. These smart garage devices possess the following capabilities.
