Note:

The America Online computer software, the TopSpeed feature, is always turned on in America Online version 9.5, America Online version 9.1, and America Online version 9.0 virtual reality. It cannot be turned off or removed. Your America Online computer software program would not function properly without it.

You can check out this America Online TopSpeed feature web acceleration frequently asked questions page for full instructions on how to turn on or turn off TopSpeed web acceleration. You can click on “How do I turn on and turn off TopSpeed Web acceleration” to reveal those instructions. The America Online TopSpeed feature is an Internet hyper text markup language hyper text transfer protocol caching service.

What this means is that every time you visit a web page, pictures, text, multimedia content will be saved onto your computer hard drive. Then, specifically, the next time you visit that same website or more specifically that uniform resource locator web page, it will possibly load faster. The images, pictures, text, multimedia content, etc. are loaded from your computer hard drive since they are already stored.

Otherwise, the text, pictures, multimedia content, etc. will be downloaded all over again. For example, if you were to browse the anetcomputers.com home page, the text, logo, etc. would get stored onto your hard drive so that the next time you visit that uniform resource locator home page, it would load faster theoretically. The America Online computer software program features TopSpeed and is actually a service that connects back to America Online's server.

This feature uses Internet port four forty three 443. Since it is a computer service, if your hardware or software firewall blocks port four forty three 443, then the America Online TopSpeed feature is then disabled. America Online has deprecated and no longer uses this TopSpeed feature in their computer software program.

According to this America Online topspeed help page, the only time topspeed is turned off is if your hardware or software firewall is blocking that service. Another reason is if the America Online topspeed cache is insufficient on your computer.
