Apple Macintosh Cleanup When Running Slow

Another information technology problemo in the world order. This time a customer of mine on a third party website, where by I earn supplemental income, was having problemos with their Apple Macintosh computer. This is their original question quoted verbatim.

My iMac has been getting slower and slower. How can I clean it up so it runs faster again?

I had additional questions for this particular customer. I asked them what operating system were they using. For example Apple Macintosh operating system El Capitan version ten dot eleven 10.11, Sierra version ten dot twelve 10.12, High Sierra version ten dot thirteen 10.13, or Mojave version ten dot fourteen 10.14.

They replied to my questions with this response.

Apple Macintosh operating system Mojave 10.14.3.

Here are the instructions that I gave them to try to solve their Apple Macintosh slowness problem. You can download and install the free version of Ccleaner. You can perform a "Cleaner" session with that software.

This customer had one more additional response.

Ok, I will give this a try. Thank you very much. Will this work on an older Apple iMac computer?

I responded with, yes Piriform Ccleaner supports Apple Macintosh operating system Snow Leopard ten dot six 10.6 or newer. You see Microsoft Windows operating system is not the only computer operating system susceptible to slow performance problems. Apple Macintosh operating systems are also susceptible to slowness.

Often times the Apple Macintosh cache, history, temporary Internet files, etcetera can cause a computer to behave in a turtle like manner. Modern operating systems to me are sloppy when it comes to the complete removal of computer programs that were installed. Also, some web browsers are terrible at cleaning up after themselves.

Ccleaner will not just only cleanup cache, history, web browser cache, etcetera files. This Piriform developed software will also cleanup program files that are orphaned. It will scan your Apple Macintosh computer and look for files, folders, etcetera from programs that have been removed.

Any of the afore mentioned files and folders can cause your Apple Macintosh computer speed to degrade over time. You could cleanup your Apple Macintosh computer files manually yourself. However, this could become quite time consuming.

One final tip, you may be able to download and install the Piriform Ccleaner portable version on your Apple Macintosh computer. The portable version does not require installation. You can look on Piriform's website and or perform an Internet search.

Ccleaner has the ability to clean up potentially gigabytes of not necessary data for you. One additional tip that may be productive. You will want to run a Ccleaner cleaning scan multiple times.

You may want to run Ccleaner cleaning sessions on an Apple Macintosh computer two to three times. I have noticed that sometimes additional data is cleaned up after each scan. If you notice that the same amount of data is being removed after each additional scan, then most likely additional scans will not help.

Also, you may want to run a full scan instead of a quick scan. Hopefully, your Apple Macintosh computer is no longer running like a tortoise and more like a hare.

How to Clean up Your Apple Macintosh Computer When it is slow

If your Apple Macintoshintosh computer is running slowly, there are a number of things you can do to clean it up and improve its performance. Here are a few tips:

Update Your Software

You can make sure that you are running the latest version of Apple Macintosh operating system and all of your applicationss. Software updates often include performance improvements and bug fixes.

Tidy up Your Startup

You can prevent applications from opening automatically when you start up your Apple Macintosh computer. This can help to improve startup time and overall performance. To do this, you will want to browse to System Preferences.

Then choose Users & Groups. Now you will want to select [Your username]. Then choose Login Items.

Clean Out Any Unused Applications

You can remove any software applications that you no longer use. These computer program applications can take up valuable disk space and memory, which can slow down your Apple Macintosh. In order to remove a computer program software application, you can drag it to the Trash can and empty the Trash can.

Clean Out The Downloads Folder

The Downloads folder is often a dumping ground for unwanted files. You can go through the Downloads folder and delete any files that you no longer need.

Tidy up Your Storage Disk

You can use the Storage tool in System Preferences to see how your storage disk is being used. You can identify and delete large files that you no longer need.

Clean Out The Cache

The Apple Macintosh cache stores temporary files that applications use to speed up loading times. However, the cache can grow over time and slow down your Apple Macintosh computer. In order to clear the cache, you can browse to Finder.

Then you will want to select Go. Now you can select Go to Folder. Now type in ~/Library/Caches.

Now you can press the Enter button or key. You will want to delete all of the files in that particular folder.

Remove Resource-Hungry Programs

Some computer software programs can use a lot of central processing unit time and memory, even when you are not using them. If you notice that your Apple Macintosh computer is running slowly when you are using a particular software application program, you can try quitting the program and see if that improves your Apple Macintosh computer's overall performance. You can also use the Activity Monitor to see which programs are using the most central processing unit and memory.

If you have followed all of these tips and your Apple Macintosh computer is still running slowly, you may need to upgrade your hardware. For example, adding more random access memory or upgrading to a solid state drive can significantly improve your Apple Macintosh computer performance.

Additional Tips

Here are a few additional tips for cleaning up your Apple Macintosh computer and improving its performance:

Restart Your Apple Macintosh Computer Regularly

This will help to clear out temporary files and processes that may be slowing down your Apple Macintosh computer. You can use a third-party cleaning application such as Ccleaner. There are a number of third-party applications available that can help you to clean up your Apple Macintosh computer and improve its performance.

These computer software program applications can scan your Apple Macintosh computer for junk files, duplicate files, and other performance-sapping issues.

Reset the Non-Volatile Random-Access Memory and System Management Controller

The non-volatile random-access memory and system management controller are two low-level components that control various aspects of your Apple Macintosh's computer hardware. Resetting the non-volatile random-access memory and system management controller can sometimes resolve performance issues. If you are still having problems with your Apple Macintosh computer's performance, you can always contact Apple Support for assistance.

ultimate party

00:08

gonna describe to you a possible

00:11

solution to

00:12

your macintosh computer becoming slower

00:15

and slower also known as apple mac and

00:17

crap

00:18

all right let me go over some details

00:20

and then i will be giving you the

00:22

solution here in a few moments

00:25

now this was the original question my

00:28

apple macintosh computer more

00:30

specifically succinctly imac has been

00:32

getting slower and slower how can i

00:35

clean it up

00:36

so that it runs faster again

00:40

and then i asked them what operating

00:42

system they were using

00:45

and then i wanted more specifics for

00:48

example apple macintosh 10.11 10.12

00:51

10.13 etc

00:54

and then they responded back with apple

00:56

macintosh mojave which is also known as

01:00

10.14

01:02

then i recommended that they download

01:06

and install and then run ccleaner

01:11

you can download and install the free

01:13

version of ccleaner and then you would

01:15

want to perform a cleaner session with

01:17

that software

01:20

in my blog post i will include a link to

01:23

the free version of ccleaner so that you

01:26

can try it out

01:29

on a mac apple macintosh computer you do

01:31

not need to worry about a windows

01:33

registry that's exclusive to micro craft

01:36

micro slot windows operating system on

01:39

apple macintosh you would just perform a

01:42

cleaning session just a cleaner

01:44

basically what you do is you do it's a

01:46

dot dmg file

01:48

which is a installer on apple macintosh

01:52

download it via your web browser

01:56

if you're familiar with wget

01:59

you might be able to use wpit on apple

02:01

macintosh

02:05

then you double click the dmg file

02:09

it's a setup file

02:11

and then install it on your apple

02:13

macintosh computer

02:16

and then

02:17

just accept the defaults and you really

02:20

don't have to change any settings just

02:22

look for the cleaner option there should

02:24

be a cleaning button or

02:27

or run a cleaning session

02:30

and now if you are given a choice you i

02:33

think

02:34

most likely you'll be given a choice of

02:36

a full scan

02:39

i would recommend a full scan and then

02:42

i'm going to give you some additional

02:43

tips now

02:45

if your macintosh computer is really

02:48

really lethargic compared to when you

02:50

first installed the operating system or

02:52

you first purchased it or maybe even

02:55

recently you updated it

02:58

installed a operating system update and

03:00

it's just real sluggish and lethargic

03:04

you might want to run a full scan if it

03:06

has that option

03:09

you could perform a quick scan if it has

03:11

that option

03:12

and then see now another thing is you

03:15

want to go ahead and and remove the

03:18

files

03:20

i think i'm not sure but some of these

03:22

software programs that give you an

03:24

option of testing it first to see how it

03:27

works i mean you could certainly run a

03:29

test but if you want to fix a problem

03:33

and it's really slow really lethargic

03:37

run a full scan and make sure it removes

03:40

all objects

03:42

so here is i've never ever had a problem

03:44

with c cleaner i think there are some

03:46

youtube technology shields

03:49

that are either lying to you or they're

03:51

being paid

03:52

to discredit c cleaner i've used

03:55

ccleaner for over a decade

03:58

and i've never had a problem where it

04:00

up a computer

04:02

now it's not perfect no software is

04:04

going to become perfect

04:06

but

04:08

never had a problem with it

04:10

however you should always back up your

04:12

data so when in doubt back up your data

04:15

just back up your data for you should

04:17

already have your data backed up at any

04:19

moment the hard drive could fail and i'm

04:22

not fear monger i'm just that's just how

04:24

hardware is

04:26

but as far as seat cleaner no just

04:29

run a cleaning scan and on macintosh

04:32

that's all you really need to have to

04:34

worry about now i'm not sure if you can

04:36

update the free version you may not be

04:38

able to i think you have to purchase the

04:41

pro

04:42

professional version of ccleaner

04:45

i am

04:46

a ccleaner affiliate i think i still am

04:50

did they change

04:52

they were associated with puriform i

04:54

think i still am an official affiliate

04:56

so i'll just you know become transparent

04:59

because i know the youtube technology

05:00

shills a lot of them are not very honest

05:03

and they're not very transparent you

05:05

know i'm saying

05:06

any other tips as far as ccleaner now

05:09

here is a potential gold tip that i

05:11

learned with c-cleaner

05:14

run that scan multiple times what you

05:16

want to do is run the first full scan

05:19

and pay attention to how much data has

05:22

been removed

05:24

it'll tell you a gigabyte removed 100

05:27

megabytes whatever

05:29

run the scan a second time and then try

05:32

to pay attention to how much data was

05:34

removed the second time

05:39

it may still remove some data

05:42

now see cleaner what it does it's a

05:44

computer optimization program

05:48

operating systems including linux

05:51

microsoft and apple macintosh

05:54

they

05:55

tend to not clean up after themselves

05:59

there will be temporary files there will

06:02

be cache files there will be temporary

06:04

internet files your web browser

06:07

saves files if you did not know that

06:09

they're called cache or sometimes

06:11

they're known as history

06:13

and those files accumulate and if they

06:16

are not removed they can potentially

06:19

cause problems also some of those files

06:21

that data can become corrupt which can

06:23

cause problems

06:25

so overall now some people

06:27

they're they're not going to

06:30

necessarily want to know or even know

06:32

how to

06:33

properly

06:34

properly diagnose a computer sometimes

06:37

they may

06:38

be complaining about

06:40

their macintosh computer being slow but

06:42

really what it is is that they're

06:44

browsing the internet and they just

06:46

needed to clear their internet cache

06:48

history etc temporary internet files

06:51

however they may not know now there is a

06:53

pro i'm not going to discuss it but if

06:55

you're using

06:58

the apple safari web browser that i

07:00

think is installed by default in apple

07:03

macintosh operating system they may not

07:05

know how to clear the cache and quite

07:07

frankly it's not

07:09

as intuitive as other web browsers but

07:12

i'm not going to discuss that you can

07:13

use ccleaner to ccleaner will clean out

07:16

also your web browser cache

07:19

temporary files history also computer

07:22

programs

07:23

i don't know if this is intentional but

07:25

a lot of computer programs even for

07:27

macintosh

07:28

they're very sloppy when you uninstall

07:31

them you think okay all the files are

07:33

removed all the folders are removed i

07:35

saved some data

07:37

no

07:38

no actually a high percentage of the

07:40

time i can't give you statistics but as

07:42

a real world computer technician i've

07:44

noticed a lot of programs microsoft

07:47

office

07:48

web browsers just you name it any kind

07:51

of computer program

07:53

they do not clean up after themselves

07:55

properly

07:56

they leave the folder structure

08:00

on that eight minute mark excellent

08:02

and so they don't necessarily clean them

08:04

up themselves ccleaner will try to clean

08:07

up

08:09

program files

08:11

but it is intuitive it knows what

08:13

programs are still being used

08:16

you know what i'm saying

08:18

run it three times this is my

08:20

recommendation

08:21

it could be a gold tip it may be a

08:23

fool's gold tip if it really doesn't

08:25

help out run it three times but after

08:27

you run ccleaner

08:31

which is just a cleaning session on

08:32

apple macintosh operating system

08:36

just

08:37

pay attention to see how much data is

08:38

being removed because even on windows

08:41

i've noticed that you run it three times

08:42

and generally it will remove most items

08:45

that is accessible once in a while i

08:47

notice that it keeps saying oh

08:49

you run it five times and the last three

08:51

times it'll say oh we moved one megabyte

08:54

of data

08:55

at that point you probably it's probably

08:57

not productive to run it any longer i've

09:00

also known this updating ccleaner

09:03

will

09:04

will maybe change that but so my goal

09:07

tip is to run it multiple times

09:09

you may you don't necessarily have to

09:11

reboot you don't really need to i've

09:13

noticed that just running cleaner on

09:15

apple macintosh

09:17

three times

09:19

two three times

09:21

you'll know you'll notice the difference

09:24

you know i'm saying

09:25

and then if you want to you can

09:27

certainly restart the operating system

09:29

any other tips now in closing

09:32

okay

09:34

they said okay i'll give it a try they

09:37

thank you very much it's not very often

09:39

that i receive thanks on this

09:40

third-party website we computer

09:42

technicians

09:44

i'm not going to digress about that too

09:45

much but i think

09:47

we are allowed i i don't allow it but

09:51

some of us allow abuse and you should

09:53

never allow abuse

09:54

there is to me the information

09:57

technology sector is very toxic

09:59

especially in a corporate environment

10:02

and i'm self-employed however i

10:04

basically earn supplemental income from

10:06

a major corporation and and some of

10:09

their end users are very toxic we get

10:11

yelled at i've been threatened with

10:13

legal action because

10:15

the other day some technician said

10:18

you too much yeah in in in their

10:21

response

10:23

i gave them a solution to a problem

10:26

there's their response was you

10:29

and i think they even called by my name

10:31

they said you aaron

10:33

you know what i'm saying anyways

10:36

it's not very often that i

10:38

receive things

10:39

just a lot of these end users they're

10:41

they're ungrateful you know what i'm

10:43

saying

10:43

and then they asked will this work on an

10:45

older macintosh now this could have

10:47

changed but the last time i

10:50

verified

10:52

ccleaner

10:53

is supported

10:55

on apple macintosh operating system

10:58

10.6 or

11:01

newer so any operating system

11:04

10.6 and if you notice on screen all

11:07

this time ccleaner is

11:10

my preferred computer optimization

11:12

program this cleaner software program is

11:14

my preferred computer optimization tool

11:16

for both microsoft windows and apple

11:18

macintosh users and then

11:21

yes

11:22

i no longer

11:23

well

11:24

in the last few years i have shied away

11:27

from answering well

11:30

helping people with certain problems

11:31

because i can still earn the same amount

11:33

of money

11:34

i don't know i don't have a computer

11:36

repair

11:39

business anymore i don't have an office

11:41

where people bring their computers to me

11:43

when i did yes i did uc cleaner

11:48

and then

11:49

oh here's another potential tip if

11:53

you are very familiar with computer

11:54

programs ccleaner i'm not sure if they

11:57

have a

11:58

portable version for apple macintosh but

12:00

you can check for it you can perform

12:02

some internet searches

12:04

and you can that way

12:06

it's it's even easier it's just one file

12:09

i think

12:10

it's

12:13

zipped it's

12:15

i'm distracting myself i'm looking

12:17

outside it was nice today oh man even

12:20

for the winter time anyways i need to

12:22

quit looking outside my window

12:26

it was com there i think it's compressed

12:28

look for a

12:31

portable version of ccleaner

12:34

and all you do is download it you

12:37

uncompress it and you open it up you do

12:40

not have to install it there is no

12:41

installer

12:45

and then

12:47

let me transition and this is really

12:49

overtime or i need to run now

13:02

so i told you apple macintosh operating

13:05

system oh

13:06

snow leopard okay snow leopard

13:10

so

13:10

the last time i verified

13:13

piriformic cleaner will work on

13:17

apple macintosh 10.6 also known as snow

13:20

leopard or

13:22

newer

13:23

good luck

13:25

adios
