Google Chrome – New Tab Redirect Allows You to Provide Page URL

One of those annoyances I consider with Google Chrome web browser is that web browser's new tab feature. When opening a new tab in Google Chrome web browser you are able to view a list of up to the past eight visited websites. There is no way to customize this feature at all.

Mozilla Firefox web browser and even Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser allows you to configure a specific uniform resource locator or blank page. I found an extension called New Tab Redirect authored by Jim Schubert. This Google Chrome web browser extension allows you to customize a new tab page.

In order to install this extension you will want to right click the drop down menu in upper right hand corner of the Google Chrome web browser and then select “More tools”. In more tools you will want to then select “Extensions”. In extensions you can type in “New Tab Redirect”.

You will need to click on a blue “Add to Chrome” button, in order to install this Google Chrome web browser extension. Once installed successfully a welcome page opens up. You can then click on the “Options” link. In options you can either choose from “One click save..” from a list of “Popular Pages” or “Chrome pages”.

Another option I prefer is to use the top “Redirect URL” field. You will want to type in your preferred website in this box and then click on “Save”. Now when you open up a new tab in Google Chrome web browser you will be sent to whatever website you typed into that “Redirect URL” box.

Finally, you can type in “about:blank” without quotations into this box and then a blank page will open up when you choose a new tab. These instructions were written for the Google Chrome web browser new tab redirect extension. You can use these instructions for Apple Macintosh, Linux, and Microsoft Windows operating systems.
